Pair Charged With Attempted Murder For Firing At Vehicle In Somerset County: Prosecutor

Two suspects were arrested and charged with attempted murder for firing at a vehicle in Somerset County last year, authorities announced Friday, Sept. 15.

Ikeem Thomas, 20, of Covington, Georgia, and Josiah T. Talbert, 20, of Somerset, were each charged with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, and various weapons offenses stemming from an incident in which they fired at a vehicle near Sunny Slope Road in Bridgewater around 3:30 p.m. on March 1, 2022, Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald said.

No injuries were reported in the shooting, detectives said after speaking with the victim. Thomas and Talbert were identified as the gunmen through an investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Bridgewater Township Police Department.

Both were arrested in New Brunswick and taken to the Somerset County Jail to await detention hearings — Thomas on Friday, May 5, and Talbert on Monday, August 28, McDonald said.

A motive for the shooting was not released.

Other assisting agencies include the Federal Bureau of Investigation Newark Field Office – Branchburg RA, U.S. Marshal’s Service, the New Brunswick Police Department, and the North Brunswick Police Department.
